Recreational and educational activities continue within the learning spaces run by Youth Vision Society as part of the project “Compensated Learning and MHPSS for Primary School Children in Gaza,” funded by the Humanitarian Fund for the Occupied Palestinian Territory. The project aims to alleviate the psychological and social impacts of the ongoing war on children.
The activities vary between drawing, singing, and physical games using colorful balls, all within an interactive and safe environment that allows children to freely express themselves and their emotions.
In this context, the project’s psychosocial counselor, Ghadeer Arafat, explained that the team implements 12 sessions per week, targeting sixth- and seventh-grade students. The sessions mainly aim to reduce feelings of fear and anxiety caused by the difficult circumstances children are living through while providing a safe space that fosters a sense of security and self-confidence.
Arafat added, “We focus heavily on developmental activities such as games and drawing, and we also give children the opportunity to explore their talents in various fields such as knitting, acting, singing, and poetry recitation.”
She emphasized that such activities significantly contribute to relieving psychological stress, helping children overcome trauma, and enabling them to express themselves freely while focusing on academic success.
This project comes as part of ongoing efforts to provide psychological and educational support to children in Gaza and to strengthen their resilience in light of the deteriorating humanitarian conditions in the region.
