YVS Provides Emergency Cash Assistance to Families in Gaza City

In the past weeks, YVS provided cash assistance to over 250 families, giving each family 200 Shekels (approximately $56 USD) inn Gaza City. Giving people cash during a crisis is one of the most powerful things we can do. It means a person can choose what food they want to buy, it allows local shops and markets to keep functioning, but most of all, it allows people to keep their dignity.
Cash assistance grants people the agency to prioritise their own needs, whether it be for food, medicine, or other essentials. This autonomy plays a key role in preserving dignity and normalcy in times of chaos. Rather than receiving goods chosen by somebody else that may not align with their specific requirements, recipients of cash from YVS can make their own decisions about what they want to buy.
It has recently been recognised by the international humanitarian community that cash injections help bolster local economies. By spending cash at local stores and markets, individuals support small businesses and contribute to the livelihoods of others in their community. This cascading effect fosters economic activity and aids the overall recovery and reconstruction of the community.
Um Ahmed the breadwinner of one of the families said, ‘it’s been two months since I had any cash. This will help me buy my young daughter’s food and maybe even a little of the sugar they wanted to add to their tea, this is making a difference for me and my family, thank you so much.’
A month ago, Ahmed, who lives in the beach camp with his family of six, was run over by a flour truck when trying to get some flour to feed his family. He lost his leg and has not had any income or money since which meant he has not been able to buy food or the medicine he needs for his leg. He reported to the YVS team that this assistance came just in time for him to get the medicine and to feed his family.
The funds distributed last week were made possible by the generous donations from the Bill Crews Foundation and by generous individuals based overseas. With over 15 years of experience in humanitarian work, we possess a profound understanding of the challenges faced by communities in crisis and the most effective strategies to address them. However, our efforts heavily rely on the continuous support and contributions of compassionate individuals worldwide.
We urge you to consider donating to YVS either directly or through our crowdfunder, which directly supports our cash assistance initiatives in Gaza. Your donation can make a significant difference, providing immediate relief and helping to restore a sense of hope and dignity to those affected by the crisis.
Your support is more than just financial assistance; it is a powerful statement of solidarity and compassion. By contributing, you become an integral part of a community dedicated to alleviating suffering and rebuilding lives. Please donate today and help us continue our vital work in Gaza.
