Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH)

What is WASH?

During the latest escalation in Gaza, widespread and repeated displacement has left much of the population with nothing but the clothes on their backs. Many homes, schools, and vital buildings providing shelter have been partially or completely destroyed. Access to clean drinking water has become scarce, leaving people unable to maintain basic hygiene.

In this dire situation, Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) projects are not just important—they are lifesaving. By ensuring access to clean water, sanitation facilities, and hygiene practices, these initiatives address critical human needs and mitigate the risk of waterborne diseases like cholera, diarrhoea, and typhoid. These diseases can quickly escalate into epidemics in overcrowded and unsanitary conditions typical of refugee camps and disaster-stricken areas.

WASH projects play a crucial role in securing safe drinking water, adequate sanitation, and promoting proper hygiene. They are essential for preventing disease outbreaks and maintaining public health amidst ongoing crises.

Youth Vision Society (YVS) Sustaining Life in Gaza

Due to widespread displacement and overcrowding in Gaza, families are crammed into limited shelter, with some forced to live on the streets or in makeshift camps. YVS has been at the forefront, addressing critical needs in  by distributing 600 water tanks across displacement camps and streets throughout Gaza, providing essential access to clean drinking water.

One of these camps, now dubbed the ‘Beach Refugee Camp’, houses thousands in tents far beyond its intended capacity. Here, YVS took proactive steps by digging a well. This well now produces approximately 250,000 litres of clean water daily, sustaining vital hydration for those in the camp.

Additionally, in northern Gaza, YVS has mobilised water trucks to ensure continuous distribution of water to communities in need.

Food Parcels

When food is available, YVS uses an existing network of vendors and bulk purchasing power to buy food at a slightly lower rate. Food parcels are prepared by our team and then handed out to those most in need.
